WHY NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO GET ON YOUR BIKE

Why is now the perfect time for Londoners to own a bike in London?

Why is now the time to own a bike in London

As well as the noticeable huge reduction in traffic on our streets, which is making cycling safer and more accessible to people, TFL is creating a staggering 280 miles of cycleways across London. Many of these schemes have been fast tracked due to the pandemic. What used to be known as Cycle Superhighways and Cycle Quietways are now being absorbed into a much larger cycle network dubbed "Cycleways".

TFL aims to link up all parts of London with an additional 280 miles of cycle paths, segregated lanes and cycle routes to link up communities and destinations across the whole of London.

HOW CYCLING COULD BENEFIT THE NHS?

Some research conducted by the campaign revealed that if every Londoner were to walk or cycle for just 20 minutes a day that would save the NHS nearly £2 billion pounds over the next 25 years. And aside from the health and welbeing benefits this would reduce also noise and air pollution in the capital substantially.

DUTCH STYLE INFRASTRUCTURE TO AID CYCLING IN LONDON

There is also Mini-Holland programme which is also part of the London's Mayors Healthy Streets Approach which is looking at investing about £100 million into transforming cycling around some of the outer London Boroughs of Enfield, Kingston and Waltham Forest into what they call "dutch style cycling infrastructure". This will see a large increasse in segregated cycle lanes on busy roads to encourage more cycling which they hope will also inturn reduce the amout of traffic on local residential streets.
